LAKE DAY TRIP: NEMI & VIA FRANCIGENA
Step away from the chaos of Rome and discover the peaceful beauty of Castelli Romani, a nearby region of volcanic lakes, forest trails, and charming hilltop villages.
After a short train ride from Rome, we will follow a scenic stretch of the historic Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route that once led travelers from all over Europe to Rome and beyond. The scenic walk leads us to Nemi, a picturesque village overlooking a deep blue volcanic lake and famous for its wild strawberries.
Here you will have time to explore the village before enjoying a relaxing picnic lunch at the beautiful garden known as Giardino di Diana. In the afternoon, unwind by the lake, soak in the scenery, or choose to visit the fascinating Museum of the Roman Ships, where you can learn about Emperor Caligula’s legendary naval battles.
Before returning to Rome, we will stop at the ancient Sanctuary of Diana, a sacred place once dedicated to the goddess of the forest and the moon.
A relaxing day of nature, legends, and fresh air just outside the city.
