In Roccantica, a medieval village in the Sabina countryside, hike woodland trails past ancient hermitages to the Dolina del Revotano, a natural sinkhole hidden in the rocks, then join the village for the Sagra del Frittello festival.

The route:
Morning: Train and bus from Rome to Roccantica
Trail: Guided hike through woodland paths, past historic hermitages
Highlight: The Dolina del Revotano, a striking natural sinkhole among rocky landscapes
Afternoon: Lunch in the village and the Sagra del Frittello, a festival of fried dough and vegetables
What’s included:
- Round-trip train from Rome Bus transfers to and from Roccantica
- Guided hike

- JCU staff with you all day
Not included: Extra food or local products at the festival (bring some cash), dinner
Fitness & preparation: The hike lasts about three hours, with uneven terrain, uphill climbs and downhill sections, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. If you don’t hike regularly, build up with a few long walks, including some hills or stairs, in the weeks before the trip.
What to bring: Sturdy hiking shoes, comfortable outdoor clothing, enough water for the hike, and some cash for festival food.

- An athletic physical by an Italian sports doctor, done within 12 months of the trip start date, is required. Questions: athletics@johncabot.edu
